TORONTO -- The CFL and CFL Players Association resumed negotiations Friday on a new collective bargaining agreement. Jack Tingle Jersey Signed . According to a league source requesting anonymity, the two sides began talking during the day and continued into early Saturday morning. The source added no deal was reached but the CFL and union would resume negotiations Saturday. And thats a good sign, considering the CFL and CFLPA last met face to face on May 29, the same day the previous CBA expired. While talks will resume Saturday, players with the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders will also hold their first strike vote as well. Veterans on teams outside Alberta have already voted and are in a legal strike position but the Eskimos and Stampeders were unable to vote earlier due to provincial labour laws. If they vote in favour of a strike, the earliest they could do so is Wednesday night in accordance with the legislation. The CFL exhibition season is scheduled to begin Monday night with the Toronto Argonauts visiting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, but with players on both teams in a legal strike position, that game could be threatened. CFL Players Association president Scott Flory didnt return a telephone message Friday while a league spokesman said commissioner Mark Cohon wasnt available for comment. The Eskimos and Stampeders will include their rookies in the vote because Alberta law requires all players to participate. Traditionally, first-year players dont vote because theyre not recognized as certified union members, but the players association is allowing them to do so to counter any potential legal challenge from the league. Some other teams in the league will also hold second votes Saturday to include their rookies. The two sides have been negotiating on a new contract since February but reached an impasse Monday when the league rejected the players latest offer. Despite turning down the players offer Monday, the CFL extended the ratification bonus deadline to midnight ET on Friday. Had the players accepted the leagues final offer in that timeframe, veterans wouldve received a $5,000 bonus while rookies would get $1,500. However, a league spokesman said the bonus clause would be taken off the table after the deadline, although the expectation is if the players and CFL do reach an agreement it will include signing bonuses for the players. There has only been one strike since the CFLPA was formed in 1965. Three weeks of training camp were lost in 1974 before a new agreement was reached. No regular-season games were affected. The 2014 regular season is scheduled to kick off June 26. The two sides dont appear to be far apart on financial issues. The CFLPA has requested a $5.2-million salary cap and $4.8-million minimum. The CFL has countered with a $5-million cap. The two sides have agreed on boosting the minimum salary $5,000 to $50,000. After demanding specific revenue-sharing percentages, the CFLPA offer called for a fixed cap for at least two years. After the second, if league revenues increased by more than $18 million -- excluding the Grey Cup -- the two sides would renegotiate the cap or the entire agreement. The CFL offer called for the cap to be renegotiated if its revenues increased by $27 million or more in the third year. Non-monetary issues, such as player safety, practice roster size, eliminating the option year on CFL contracts and practice times, are also sticking points. Fake NBA Jerseys . VANCOUVER -- David Booth has been placed on unconditional waivers by the Canucks for the purpose of buying him out. Raimel Tapia Jersey . If Booth clears waivers, Vancouver can use a compliance buyout on the 29-year-old forward. Booth had one year left on his contract at a salary of US$4.75 million and a salary-cap hit of $4.25 million. "We wish David all the success in the future and thank him for his contributions with the Canucks," general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. The Detroit native had nine goals and 10 assists in 66 games this past season. Injuries limited him to 12 games in the 2012-13 campaign. Like other unrestricted free agents, Booth can talk to other teams beginning June 25 and sign a new deal July 1. Buying out Booth is another change for the Canucks, who traded Roberto Luongo and fired general manager Mike Gillis and coach John Tortorella earlier this spring. The team has since hired Trevor Linden as president and Benning as GM. More moves are expected, including the hiring of a new coach. Along with Booth, Ville Leino was also placed on waivers Tuesday as the Buffalo Sabres intend to use a compliance buyout to get out of the final three years of his contract. Lance Painter Jersey . The match is in Cardiff (KO 5pm, live on Sky Sports 1) and Bale added that Wales need their home form to be strong if they are to successfully qualify for Russia 2018. I think it is another big game, said the Real Madrid forward. It is the old cliche again of we are taking it one game at a time, but that is the way we have been approaching things in the past, and that is how we will continue to do it. It is a massive game for us tomorrow and our home form is going to be key to us qualifying.I think today is the main day when we will really sit down and look at the opposition so I cant comment too much at the moment, because I dont know too much. But I have seen their results in the past and they have had very good results - they beat Spain [in a pre-Euro 2016 friendly], and I dont think they deserved to lose against Ireland [in a World Cup qualifier last week] from what I hear.I am sure it is going to be a difficult game tomorrow and one we need to prepare for right. It was a difficult game in Vienna [a 2-2 draw with Austria on Thursday], a hard-earned point, and obviously we have to make sure we are recovered and ready for tomorrow with no excuses. VANCOUVER -- Hunter Shinkaruk earned a chance to stay in the NHL for at least a little while longer Thursday night. Authentic NHL Jerseys . The 18-year-old rookie scored a goal, his second of the pre-season, as the Vancouver Canucks blanked the New York Rangers 5-0 at Rogers Arena. He stayed with the Canucks after coach John Tortorella sent three other players packing to the minors and back to junior after the game. "With that shot, it just kind of found the net," he said. "I was really fortunate." Shinkaruk, a Calgary native who was one of Vancouvers two first-round draft choices (24th overall) this year, put in a shot off Rangers defenceman Dan Girardi in with 44 seconds left in the second period to close out the scoring. "Im just kind of excited every day I wake up," said Shinkaruk. "Im just trying to do my best when I come to the rink -- and hope my name is hanging still in my stall. So far, its been good, but I cant take anything for granted." Shinkaruk finished the pre-season with three points after also earning an assist in another game. Although he has been used as a bottom-six forward, he hopes the pre-season production will bolster his chance to stay in the NHL permanently. "Im definitely a guy whos been relied upon to shoot a lot and score goals in junior," said Shinkaruk. "Obviously, its a bit different coming in here with the high-end guys that (are) on this team. My role has changed a little bit, but thats still my role -- to try to create a little bit of offence as much as I can." Due to his age, he must go back to his Medicine Hat Tigers junior squad in the WHL if he does not last more than nine regular-season games with the Canucks. If he plays a 10th game, his entry-level NHL contract will kick in. But with winger Zack Kassian suspended for the first five games of the regular season and Jordan Schroeder nursing a fractured foot that is expected to keep him out three weeks, new coach John Tortorella has elected to keep Shinkaruk around -- for now -- as the regular season approaches. "Hes played well, scored another goal," said Tortorella. "He scores two goals that are kind of funky goals, but theyre goals. Hes had a good camp. The suspension with Kass opens up another spot there. Im not sure what the lineups going to be. But hes certainly made a case as he played." Henrik Sedin scored two goals as the Vancouver Canucks finished the pre-season 2-4-0. The goals, his first of the pre-season, came as he and twin brother Daniel celebrated their 33rd birthday. The Rangers saw their pre-season record fall to 1-4-0 with one game still to play Friday in Las Vegas against the Los Angeles Kings. Frank Corrado and Ryan Kesler also scored for the Canucks. Alex Edler supplied three assists. But Corrados offence didnt help him because the 20-year-old defenceman from Toronto was sent down to Utica of the AHL after the game. "Frankie had a goal and assist, and we just sent him to Utica," said Tortorella. "I thought he started off (training camp) really well and, the middle part, it looked like he just lost a little bit of the confidence. But he has to go play. Were not going to keep a young guy here to be a sixth guy or a seventh guy whos playing eight or nine minutes. He can go down there and play 25, 30 and, hopefully, maybe revisit where hes at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and see where we go." Zach Hamill, a 25-year-old journeyman from Vancouver, was returned to Utica after being recalled briefly in wake of suspensions and injuries. Brendan Gaunce, 19, Vancouvers top 2012 draft pick, was returned to the Belleville Bulls of the OHL. Tortorella said he wants Gaunce, who scored two goals in five pre-season games but did not play Thursday, to pick up his pace of play. New Yorks Alain Vigneault and Vancouvers Tortorella coached against their former teams for the first time. They were replaced with each other after being fired following last springs playoffs. Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo picked up his second win of the pre-season. He recorded 41 saves for his first shutout as the Rangers outshot the Canucks 41-20. Luongo was glad to be tested early and hopes the effort will help him get off to a good start in the regular season. "Its definitely a step in the right direction," said Luongo. "We want to keep building on that. "That being said, it doesnt really translate automatically to a good start. Ive had some good pre-seasons before, and sometimes it didnt translate." Rangers starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist took the loss as he stopped 12-of-17 shots in two periods of work. Vigneault decided to pull Lundqvist early due to poor play and the possibility he might go with him Friday in against the Kings. Backup Martin Biron stopped just three shots in a scoreless third period. Notes: The Rangers signed holdout centre Derek Stepan, their top scorer last season, to a new US$6.15-million, two-year contract. Stepan had 18 goals and 26 assists last season. ... Canucks winger David Booth played his first game since suffering an ankle injury last March. Booth was scheduled to return Saturday in Edmonton, but he hurt his groin during the morning skate. He hit the post on a two-on-one with Biron beaten in the third period, and also saw extensive penalty-killing duty for the first time as a Canuck. ... Shinkaruk and fellow 2013 first-rounder Bo Horvat were the only Canucks who played all six of their clubs exhibition contests. Horvat also remained with the Canucks following the cuts. Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork. Schuhe Günstig .com) - Clint Dempsey made a triumphant return to Seattle on Sunday as he scored in the 71st minute to help the Sounders to a 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers at CenturyLink Field. Dempsey spent the past month in Brazil with the United States national team at the World Cup, but in his first game back, it was his second-half goal that separated the Cascadia Cup rivals before Marco Pappa added an insurance tally four minutes from time for the hosts. Seattle has now won four of its last five games to move 10 points clear at the top of the Western Conference. The match was an extremely cautious affair in the opening 45 minutes as the two sides combined to put just one shot on target. But things came to life after the break as Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts needed to be alert to keep out a chance from Gonzalo Pineda in the opening minute of the half. Dempsey nearly turned home a header from Zach Scott at close range in the 59th, but he made no mistake with his next chance. Ricketts produced a fine double save to first deny Dempsey and then Obafemi Martins in front of goal. However, Portland was unable to clear the ball and Pineda drove a shot toward the net that Dempsey was able to redirect home. Lamar Neagle nearly added another goal for the Sounders when he struck the post in the 82nd minute, while the Timbers came within inches of an equalizer in the 85th as Gaston Fernandez unleashed a long-range shot that clipped the outside of the upright with Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei easily beaten. One minute later, Seattle put the game away as Neagle led a counter-attack that saw him square the ball to Pappa inside the area for a left-footed finish. Two off-seasons ago, the Alouettes were told by then head coach Marc Trestman that he would be leaving to take a job with the Chicago Bears. Rick Aguilera Jersey . Trestman had led the team to Grey Cup championships in 2009 and 2010 so it is not a stretch to think that ownership in Montreal was looking for the next Marc Trestman when they got the news. The search for a new head coach began immediately, and there were some big names on the list of potential candidates. However, whenever there is a coaching change with an organization, time is of the essence because there are only so many jobs each off-season, and coaches have to take the opportunities while they can, or lose them, and be out of work. Montreal settled on Dan Hawkins and everyone knows how that worked out. The plan was for Hawkins to run Trestmans offence, and Anthony Calvillo would be asked to coach the coach. For a variety of reasons, that didnt work, and Hawkins tried to implement his own system, which also failed, and he was let go early in the season. Against some tough odds, general manager Jim Popp was asked to step in and try and pull things back together. Popp would have to put in a new system, change the terminology, find some assistants that could help, get an inexperienced Troy Smith up to speed, and find a way to make the playoffs. It was a goal that seemed almost impossible, but the Als got there, and in fact were one controversial play away from advancing to the Eastern Final. Fast forward to this past off-season. Now ownership is trying to decide if Popp should continue to coach the team and have the dual role or if they should go back to the proven model of hiring two separate people as their GM and head coach, which has been the formula that got them to five Grey Cups in the last 10 years. Also while this is happening, the organization is trying to fill other vacated holes in the staff. Remember Trestman took a lot of his assistants with him to Chicago. Scott Milanovich had moved on to Toronto earlier, and Marcus Brady had gone with him. In fact, it has been estimated that there are over 60 front office staff, coaches, and players currently working in the CFL that went though Montreal; a compliment to the organization, but over the last two years, an issue that is catching up to them. So this past off-season, ownership is contemplating whether Jim Popp should continue coaching, while they are compiling a list of possible candidates, and time was again slipping away. When Tom Higgins was finally announced, which was a decision by ownership, not by GM Jim Popp, a reporter asked if Higgins reminded ownership of Marc Trestman, and Bob Wetenhalls son Andrew answered in the affirmative, which suggests that ownership was taking their time because they were looking for the next Trestman. Now Higgins assembles his staff and hires Rick Worman to be his offensive coordinator to work with a young Ryan Dinwiddie whom has shown great potential, but is inexperienced as a coordinator. Worman again changes the terminology, and the offence, but depending on which story you believe, butts heads with staff and some players, and doesnt work out. So prior to the team kicking off the regular season, Dinwiddie, who again many think will be a great coordinator some day, is forced to leave the spotters booth, head to the sideline and, once again rework the offence. So the Als head into the regular season with an inexperienced Troy Smith who has been asked to learn three different offences in a span of about 10 months. Not surprisingly, the team starts the season 1-4 and struggles putting any points on the board. Interestingly enough, it is Smith that takes all the heat for the teams problems, with many people, including his head coach Tom Higgins, saying he just isnt playing well enough to give the team a chance to win. It is interesting because in last weeks loss to Toronto, Smith was pulled and Alex Brink went 9-for-23 for 60 yards and an interception, which would indicate that, while jury still may be out on Smith, he certainly isnt the real problem. On Monday, Montreal announced that former Stampeder Jeff Garcia was being brought in to help kick-start the offence, and joins Don Matthews and Turk Schonert, as consultants. Garcia should help Troy Smith in a huge way, however the new coaches also means that there will be yet again a new offensive system for the Heisman Trophy winner, and both Tanner Marsh and Alex Brink to learn. The fact that so much is being done to help Tom Higgins shouldnt surprise anyone; remember Higgins was hired by ownership so clearly they want to give Higgins as much help as possible before even contemplating another mid-season head coaching change. So it will be the fourth offensive system in 10 months, new terminology, and back to basics for three quarterbacks whose heads must be spinning. The good news for Montreal fans is that the East is up for grabs and a couple of wins can get you on top of the division in a hurry. However, the struggles that the Als are facing have less to do with an inexperienced quarterback and more to do with ownership trying to hire the next Trestman. Marc Trestman is a great coach; a quarterback expert that was an excellent communicator and humble enough to understand that you are always learning. However, there is only one Marc Trestman and trying to find the next one has put this team in catch-up mode for going on two years now. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Adam Wainwright won 19 games last season and finished second in the NL Cy Young voting. So far, his encore is even better. Wainwright became the National Leagues first eight-game winner by dominating Cincinnati again, and the St. Louis Cardinals pulled away to a 4-0 victory Sunday night that completed another successful series against their division rival. The Cardinals are 6-3 against the Reds this season. Theyve won 10 of their last 11 series together. Overall, St. Louis has won nine of its last 11 games and moved within 1 1-2 games of first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central. Wainwright (8-2) beat Johnny Cueto and the Reds on opening day in Cincinnati, allowing only three hits during seven innings of a 1-0 victory. On Sunday, the right-hander gave up five hits in eight innings and matched his career high with 12 strikeouts. "Thats the epitome of pitching, in my opinion," manager Mike Matheny said. "The people watching today maybe on the national (television) game, I hope they had an appreciation for what this guy does and how he does it." Wainwright set the tone by striking out five of the first six batters on a total of 24 pitches. He got Brandon Phillips on three pitches that clocked 73, 91 and 93 mph. The one disappointment for Wainwright last season was his rough showing against the Reds -- 1-3 in four starts with a 7.77 ERA. Hes fixed that problem. "Last year I was a one-side-of-the-plate pitcher and they just crushed me," Wainwright said. "This year, Im pitching a lot differently. Im using both sides of the plate." Tony Cruz and Kolten Wong each had a pair of singles and drove in a run off Mike Leake (2-4). Wong also stole a pair of bases. The game drew 42,273 fans, the Reds third sellout crowd of the season. All three sellouts have come against the Cardinals. Leake went six innings and continued his streak of solid pitching. The right-hander hasnt allowed more than two runs in any of his last five starts, giving up a total of eight earned runs. With Wainwright on his game again, it was two runs too much. Mike Piazza Jersey. Wainwright lowered his ERA to 1.67. In his last two starts, he has given up only six hits and no runs in 17 innings. "Ive never felt like this," the 31-year-old pitcher said. "Thats part of of the evolution of me. I expected to get better as I got older, and a little wiser. "Now that Im over 30 years old, I dont think theres any reason for me to start to decline. I think I should still try to get better and expect to get better." Cruz led off the third inning with a single and advanced on Wainwrights sacrifice bunt. Wong singled up the middle with two outs for a run. Matt Adams singled, Allen Craig walked and Cruz singled home a run with two outs in the sixth. The Cardinals added a pair of runs in the seventh with the help of two errors by the Reds, who lead the majors in fielding percentage. Wainwright pitched out of Cincinnatis best threat in the fifth, when the Reds got runners to second and third with two outs. He got Billy Hamilton on a called third strike to end the inning. Hamilton struck out four times against Wainwright on opening day and three more times Sunday, leaving him 0 for 7 with seven strikeouts and a walk off the right-hander. NOTES: The Cardinals return home for an afternoon game against the Yankees on Monday, with Michael Wacha (3-3) facing Chase Whitley (0-1). The Reds fly to Los Angeles for an evening game against the Dodgers, sending Cueto (4-3) against Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-2). ... Wong extended his hitting streak to seven games. ... C Yadier Molina got a day of rest. ... OF Peter Bourjos was better, but still out of the lineup a day after he got a stomach virus. ... RHP Mat Latos made his first rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, allowing three hits and two runs in four innings. The Reds want him to make at least two more starts in the minors. ... RF Jay Bruce went 1 for 12 with seven strikeouts during the series, which marked his return from torn knee cartilage. ' ' '
Last year was a great one, the best year as it relates to Canadas Purolator Tackle Hunger program. Wholesale Air Jordan . That is because last year WE raised 1,149,029 lbs of food for nine local food banks across Canada. And yes, I want to be a part of it again but need your help. To understand the importance and significance of the program you have to take a moment and imagine what it would be like to go a whole day with nothing to eat. To wake up one morning and wonder how you are going to survive the day. It must be an anxiety wrenching feeling where your goal for the day is not to accomplish or progress, you goal for the day is to survive. And what I would again only have the ability to imagine is if you have kids or dependents who themselves wonder how they are going to survive. Having the sensitivity or even merely the awareness to feel another human beings pain is a remarkable quality of maturity and elegance. In many ways it is a human strength that provides those who have it with a motivation of compassion that creates individual accomplishment. It is very, very true that many times we will do more for others than ourselves and in the case of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program, more for others who we may not even know. The success of the program says a lot about the citizens of Canada and their character as people. But as in the last 12 years, this year we must again strive to improve and hopefully maintain the effectiveness of the program. Almost half of the food donations that food banks have are for kids, which may be extremely surprising for some. I know it was for me. Twelve years ago when I visited my first food bank in my life as an observer I expected to observe adults only. Older perhaps or physically limited perhaps or just people "down on their luck". I never originally thought I would see so many different types of people from all walks of life and backgrounds. People that were simply laid off due to employment restructure, where when the "restructure" was completed were not asked back. People that were "downsized" due to age or inefficiency who were left with money but not enough to live rationally and reasonably. And even people that I wondered that if the food bank was not here as a resource what they would be forced to do to eat and survive. If you take hope away from a human being the human being will change and not for the better. You take hope away from a human being and something changes internally. Something inside where you do what you have to do to survive, even if it is at the expense of others. A food bank give people hope. It gives them what they need to get through the day, week, month and gives them hope that in the future there will be better days, weeks, months. I am convinced that food banks keep communities and neighbourhoods safe because they manage desperation. Still, the most emotionally attaching visual you will see in a food bank are the kids, and I dont mean teenagers or young adults, I mean kids. Infants, five-year-olds who should be in kindergarten. Ten-year-olds who should be out and about doing whatever a 10-year-old does with the mothers and fathers that are there beside them in the food bank. Kids are smart, they are bright because they are very intuitive. They know that going to a food bank is not normal, and they probably know that because their other friends dont go to food banks and hear about it. They understand that this is a place there parents dont want to be because of pride and a place they have to be because they have no choice. If in life you ever need a moment to realize how fortunate you just may be, go to a food bank and watch people. What you may notice is an absence of happiness, and absence of emotion. Just a desire to satisfy a basic need, to eat. And when you notice that in a five-year-old, or a 10-year-old then making an extra effort to donate is no effort at all. To all those who have donated in the past and to all those who I know will donate in the future I give you the most sincere thanks possible. Your assistance elevates me to do more for others as I know I have so many others working with me. And in the end, it is about acting on a need, an issue of society. Not losing that empowering and respected human quality of being able to feel anothers pain and desperation. For 12 years it has been there, and I ask you once more this year to again respond to the challenge of simply helping others who simply need a little help. Heres what else the Brooklyn Nets are at the moment: a last-place disappointment. "Tough times right now," forward Kevin Garnett said. They got tougher Sunday, when reserve Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 27 points in the Detroit Pistons 109-97 victory that sent the Nets to a fifth straight loss and sole possession of the Atlantic Division basement. The Nets, with their enormous payroll and enormous expectations, fell to 3-10, a half-game behind the New York Knicks, and were hearing boos at Barclays Center in the second half. "The balls just bouncing the opponents way right now and weve just got to stay together," coach Jason Kidd said. Greg Monroe had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, who bounced back from consecutive losses to Atlanta. Brandon Jennings added 14 points and 10 assists, making all 10 free throws to make up for a 2-for-10 shooting performance. "Road wins are hard to get and any time you get a road win its huge," Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks said. Joe Johnson made eight 3-pointers and scored a season-high 34 points, but the short-handed Nets couldnt overcome another cold night from Paul Pierce and Garnett, who were a combined 7 for 22. Pierce finished with 19 points, but was 5 of 13 after making his last two when the game was long since decided. Garnett shot 2 of 9 for four points. The Nets again played without starters Brook Lopez and Deron Williams, who have sprained left ankles, and top reserves Andrei Kirilenko (back spasms) and Jason Terry (bruised left knee). "Its tough when look at the record, 3-10, 3-11, whatever our record is, and know weve dug ourselves quite a big hole, no matter if weve got the injuries or not," Pierce said. "We still feel like were talented enough to win these type of games." They played a strong first half but were undone again by a miserable third quarter, as they have in all 10 losses. The Nets had been outscored by 77 points (8.6 per game) in the third quarters of their first nine losses and thhey were even worse in this one, getting clobbered 34-15. Fake Jordan. "We have to be worst team in the league when it comes to third quarters and thats not acceptable," Garnett said. Leading by seven at halftime, Brooklyn needed less than 4 minutes to fall behind by four after Detroit came out of the locker room with a 15-4 spurt. Then, leading by one midway through the period, the Pistons outscored the Nets 17-6 to close the quarter and take a 78-66 advantage to the fourth. Stuckey kept the Nets at bay from there, scoring 17 in the fourth. He came in leading all Eastern Conference reserves with 14.8 points per game and helped the Pistons overcome 4-for-20 shooting from starting guards Jennings and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. "Im just trying to come in and just be that energy guy that we need off the bench," Stuckey said. "Just bring energy and whatever my teammates need me to do. They rely on me to score some baskets. Thats what Ive got to do." Meanwhile, the team with the payroll of around $180 million after luxury taxes went with the likes of Mason Plumlee and Mirza Teletovic for much of the fourth quarter before Kidd finally went back to Pierce and Garnett with about 4 minutes left. Brooklyn cut a 16-point deficit to 96-91 after consecutive 3-pointers by Johnson, but Stuckey banked in a jumper, and Monroe followed Johnsons free throw with a dunk to push the lead to 100-92 with 2:18 to play. Nets players made the first four baskets, though the last of those counted for the Pistons when Andray Blatche tipped it into his own hoop. Detroit led 23-19 after one quarter. But Johnson hit all five shots and scored 13 points in the second, when Brooklyn made 13 of 17 (76.5 per cent). A 3-pointer from Pierce and two from Johnson led the Nets on a 16-5 surge that turned a one-point deficit into a 51-41 lead. NOTES: Detroits Andre Drummond finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, ending his streak of seven straight double-doubles. He was 1 of 4 after the Nets resorted to intentionally fouling him in the fourth quarter. ... Garnett tied Hall of Famer Gary Payton for ninth on the NBAs career list with his 1,335th game. ' ' '

The shortstop still grieves, but it will be nights like the one Segura had in a 5-2 victory Monday over the Cincinnati Reds that will provide some distraction.TORONTO -- Another start, another win for Bo Levi Mitchell. Mitchells four touchdown passes lead Calgary past the Toronto Argonauts 34-15 on Saturday night. The win was a big one for the Stampeders (2-0), who were without running back Jon Cornish and receivers Nik Lewis and Maurice Price. Cornish, the CFLs outstanding player last season, and Lewis are out with concussion symptoms while Price has a broken hand. But that didnt deter Mitchell, who finished 16-of-24 passing for 268 yards to improve to 5-0 as a starter. He needs two wins to tie the league record for most victories to begin a CFL career held by former Stampeder Jeff Garcia. "Were 2-0 right now, thats all Im worried about," Mitchell said. "Im not worried about my record, Im worried about this teams record and thats what Im going to keep worrying about. "I keep doing everything I can in my power to get us in a position to win the game." Then again, hardly anyone noticed as just 16,102 fans were at Rogers Centre. Last weekend, under 18,000 watched Toronto defeat Saskatchewan 48-15 in its home opener. Calgary head coach/GM John Hufnagel was complimentary of his quarterback. "Bo had a good game, he did what we needed from the position," Hufnagel said. "He had good composure for the most part, threw the ball very accurately." Toronto head coach Scott Milanovich said Mitchell had too much time to look downfield. "I felt like we didnt get much pressure on him," Milanovich said. "If he can stand back there and have time, theyre going to gut you." With Cornish out, Matt Walter and Jock Sanders split the halfback duties, rushing for 46 and 15 yards, respectively, as Calgary ran for 100 yards on 22 carries. Anthony Parker was the Stampeders receiving leader with four catches for 101 yards and a TD while sophomore Jeff Fuller had five receptions for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Calgary also showed some offensive flare that helped stake it to a 17-9 half-time advantage. Mitchell took a lateral from Sanders, then hit Parker with a 58-yard TD pass to end the first and put Calgary ahead 10-6. The play was originally flagged as an illegal forward pass but overturned by review. "Dickie (offensive co-ordinator Dave Dickenson) felt like we were backed up a little bit," Mitchell said. "We kept being backed up on our drives . . . so we decided, Hey, weve got a couple of first downs, lets get a big one." Then Mitchell found Fuller on an eight-yard TD toss at 5:11 of the second giving Calgary a 17-6 advantage. It was set up by Sanders sparkling 121-yard return after Swayze Waters missed a 34-yard field goal try. But the offence wasnt the only unit playing hurt. Calgarys defence held Toronto without a TD despite losing linebacker Deron Mayo and defensive back Keon Raymond to leg injuriees. Mark Grace Jersey. Mitchell said theres a simple reason why Calgary continues to win despite mounting injuries. "The coaching staff," he said. "Those guys, they work tirelessly. "They make sure we have the right gameplan, they make sure were in there studying, theyre on our backs making sure were in there practising the plays." Hufnagel was very matter of fact when asked about his teams injury situation. "Im not going to say much except that every team has 44 players and theyre expected to win football games," he said. "Thats how we approach it." Marquay McDaniel had the other TD for Calgary while Rene Paredes had four converts and two field goals. Waters booted five field goals for Toronto (1-2), which was without receivers Andre Durie (clavicle) and Jason Barnes (knee). Rookies Anthony Coombs and Darvin Adams made their first career starts. After almost scoring at will against the defending Grey Cup champions, Toronto could only muster field goals against a Calgary defence that bent but never broke. The Argos had the ball for over 31 minutes and amassed 445 total yards. "We had our chances to make it a more closely contested game but then we made mental mistakes," Milanovich said. "There was a lot of talk about the guys Calgary was missing . . . . but they always seem to have the talent to bring in." Toronto quarterback Ricky Ray finished 28-of-36 passing for 291 yards after throwing for 407 yards and three TDs against Saskatchewan. Chad Owens had his second 100-yard receiving game with nine catches for 102 yards. "It was a win for their defence," Ray said. "Rich (Stampeders defensive co-ordinator Rich Stubler) mixed it up -- a lot of zone coverage and they kept us in front of them. "They hit hard and it definitely threw us off our rhythm. We werent able to capitalize and only got field goals." A fact not lost upon Mitchell. "Seven is better than three, I know that," he said. "Its not easy to stop that man, Ricky Ray is a guy who will slice and dice you. "Our guys did a great job tonight of making sure they were in the right spot and holding them." NOTES -- Toronto honoured cornerback Byron Parker in the first quarter. He retired as an Argo after signing a one-day contract with the club. Parker spent seven seasons with Toronto and holds the league records for most interception TD returns (nine) and most interception return yards in a season (348). Parker played for Toronto, Edmonton, B.C., and Montreal and was a three-time league all-star. He was also the NCAA slam-dunk champion in 03 at Tulane . . . Linebacker Keenan McDougal and offensive lineman Edwin Harrison were Calgarys scratches while linebacker Greg Jones and defensive lineman Delano Johnson didnt dress for Toronto. ' ' '
While the rest of the NBA world waits in limbo for LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to decide where they are going to play next season, the San Antonio Spurs just keep quietly making sure the band is getting back together for a run at a second straight title. Sports Jerseys From China . In the middle of the James hysteria on Wednesday, the Spurs issued a two-sentence press release announcing that coach Gregg Popovich had agreed to a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. After beating the Miami Heat for the franchises fifth championship last month, the Spurs quickly found out that Tim Duncan would indeed return next season. Deals with Patty Mills and Boris Diaw ensured that the roster would remain largely intact, so there was little doubt that the 65-year-old Popovich would return for a 19th season on the Spurs bench. That was confirmed on Wednesday in a presentation that was predictably light on fanfare. No comments from Popovich. No statements from GM RC Buford or owner Peter Holt. No big deal, just the way Popovich likes it. The talk of his pending retirement has grown louder as the years have gone on, but Popovich showed no sign of slowing down in season No. 18. He led the Spurs to a league-best 62 wins in the regular season, earned his third coach of the year award and then helped the team recover from the heartbreak of last years loss to the Heat in the finals with an emphatic five-game triumph this season. "Day after day, year after year, the energy that Pop provides our organization is truly unique," Buford said when Popovich joined Pat Riley and Don Nelson as the only coaches in league history to be named coach of the year three times. Popovich is 1,116-533, including the playoffs, in a career that started in 1996. He is the longest-tenured coach in any of the four major American pro sports and has led the Spurs to at least 50 wins 16 times, including 15 in a row. Authentic Sports Jerseys . The 34-year old was magnificent in 2013, throwing for just under 2,900 yards despite missing eight games, tossing an impressive 21 touchdowns against just two interceptions, completing 66 per cent of his passes in the process.Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Arcidiaconos layup and foul shot -- the last of his team-high 21 points -- with 3.6 seconds remaining was the deciding margin, as No. 9 Villanova kept rolling with a 82-79 double-OT decision against Providence on Tuesday. Arcidiacono, a threat from the outside, was instead allowed room on the left wing and banked the go-ahead bucket off the glass while being harmed by Kadeem Batts. Quick ball movement off the inbound put the game in the hands of LaDontae Henton, but his try from the left wing to send the game to a third overtime clanged off the front of the rim. JayVaughn Pinkston totaled 20 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats (23-3, 11-2 Big East), who received 17 points and nine boards from James Bell. Villanova pulled into a tie atop the conference with idle Creighton, who whipped the Cats, 101-80, in Omaha on Sunday. Bryce Cotton tallied a game-best 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Friars (17-10, 7-7). Batts picked up 21 points and 11 boards, with Josh Fortune adding 16 points in a valiant, losing cause. A 13-2 run ending just before the middle portion of the first half turned a two-point deficit into a nine-point bulge for the Friars. Tyler Harris capped it on a trey to make it 22-13. Arcidiaconos triple capped a 15-7 surge from the Wildcats to pull them within 29-28, and he connected oonce more from long distance in the final seconds. Cheap Sports Jerseys. Cotton, though, hit two from the line to forge a 33-33 deadlock at the break. Nova provided some breathing room with a quick burst in the early stages of the second half, going up 44-39 just over six minutes in on a Daniel Ochefu slam. Villanova kept Providence at arms length from there, never letting the hosts climb closer than three until the final moments. Arcidiaconos two from the line provided a 63-58 edge for the Wildcats, but two free throws from Cotton and a three from Henton off a Bell miss evened the score with 20.6 seconds to go. Arcidiaconos last chance from beyond the arc came up short, and Hentons off- balance heave at the buzzer hit the rim. In the first extra session, Villanova erased a three-point deficit and went up by two on a Darrun Hilliard trey, but Cottons layup on the next trip down the floor evened the score. Arcidiacono missed an easy shot and the game slipped into a second OT. Game Notes: Villanova hosts St. Johns on Saturday, while Providence heads to Butler on Sunday ... Arcidiacono also totaled six rebounds and three steals, while Hilliard and Ochefu both finished with 11 points ... Fortune, who finished 4-of-5 from long range, also grabbed a game-high four steals ... The Wildcats connected on just 9-of-28 shots from beyond the arc in the triumph. ' ' '
