WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals placed Gio Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of inflammation in his pitching shoulder. This is the first time the 28-year-old left-hander has gone on the disabled list. Gonzalez (3-4) dropped his third straight start in Saturdays 5-2 loss to the New York Mets. He lasted only three innings, allowing five runs and seven hits, which raised his ERA to 4.62. Gonzalez gave up seven runs and nine hits in his previous start at Oakland. General manager Mike Rizzo said Gonzalez had an MRI on Sunday in which dye is injected. He will not be able to throw for five days. "Hell miss two starts," Rizzo said of the initial plan. "Well find out whats going in (Gonzalezs shoulder) and take it from there." The Nationals recalled Ryan Mattheus from Triple-A Syracuse. Gonzalez left a start in late April because of shoulder tightness. "He passed a strength test. Combined having a little soreness (Saturday) with a little soreness a month ago, we thought this was a prudent way to do it," Rizzo said before Sundays series finale with the New York Mets. Gonzalez side-stepped questions about his health Saturday, but spoke with Rizzo following his latest loss. "I dont have a great concern level for it right now just because the way Gio said he felt after the game," Rizzo said. Gonzalez lost command of the strike zone Saturday, falling behind in the count and throwing 84 pitches in three innings. "I thought he looked fine," said Rizzo about whether he saw an injured pitcher on the mound. "His arm speed was good. His spin was fine. As good as its always been on his breaking ball. His fastball velocity was good. The command part of it, which sometimes comes and goes with Gio anyway, was the thing that was causing him an issue." Gonzalez went 32-16 during his first two seasons with the Nationals after a trade with the Oakland As. He made at least 32 starts in each of his previous four seasons. "Hes a big key to the ball club," Rizzo said. "Wed like to get him back. Were going to take our time with him and be careful with him because hes vital to the ball club." Mattheus has 140 career appearances with the Nationals, including two this season. He has not allowed a run in three innings. Kyle OQuinn Jersey . Brooks coached the West and watched as Irving led the East to a comeback win on his way to earning MVP honours. Brooks didnt like what he saw from Irving on Wednesday night, and it was no joke this time. The point guard made it look like All-Star weekend again, scoring 14 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter to help the Cleveland Cavaliers beat Oklahoma City 114-104. Irving also had nine assists, five rebounds and four steals. "Kyrie had a huge performance for us," Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said. "He was very efficient in the 43 minutes that he played tonight, I thought offensively, especially." The young Cavaliers, still adjusting to roster changes since the trade deadline, picked up a meaningful victory. Cleveland shot 14 for 21 from the field in the fourth quarter against the Western Conference-leading Thunder. "To come here and get a win in this building versus this team and those players and that coaching staff, for us, is a good confidence booster," Brown said. "Everything for us right now to be a positive will help us long term just as much as it will short term." It was Oklahoma Citys third straight home loss since the All-Star break. The Thunder lost three games at home the entire season before the break. "No one in the locker room, including myself, feels good about it," Brooks said. "The exciting thing is we know we can do better. We just have to maximize our potential." Jarrett Jack scored 21 points, Spencer Hawes scored 19 and Tristan Thompson added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Kevin Durant had 28 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, Russell Westbrook had 24 points and nine assists and Serge Ibaka added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Thunder. Oklahoma City is 0-3 since Westbrook returned from his latest knee surgery. Brooks said the bigger issue for the Thunder is their suddenly porous defence. Oklahoma City, one of the leagues top defensive teams all season, allowed 103 points on 55 per cent shooting against Miami and 125 points on 52 per cent shooting against the Los Angeles Clippers before its latest collapse. "Its a defensive toughness," Brooks said. "We have to get tough on the basketball because were giving up too much penetration. WWe have to fight through screens.ddddddddddddThese are things that weve done a great job at, we just have to get back to it." In the closing seconds of the first half, Westbrook dribbled as the clock wound down, then pulled up in front of Irving and drained a 3-pointer to give the Thunder a 52-51 lead at the break. The Thunder committed 12 turnovers in the first half, but made up for it by shooting 57 per cent from the field. Durant scored 15 points before the break and Westbrook had 13 points and six assists. Irving had 14 points, four assists and three steals at halftime. The Thunder opened the second half with 3s from Durant and Thabo Sefolosha to take a 58-51 lead. A mid-range jumper by Ibaka stretched Oklahoma Citys lead to 62-53, leading Brown to call a timeout. Cleveland regrouped and cut Oklahoma Citys lead to three on an unusual play. The Cavaliers Luol Deng shot a jumper and Nick Collison was called for goaltending and issued a technical foul for grabbing the net. Irving made the free throw to make it a 69-66 game. The Thunder led 76-72 at the end of the period. "Oklahoma City, they came out and kind of punched us in the mouth a little bit in that third quarter, and our guys didnt panic," Brown said. "They kind of stayed with it." Matthew Dellavedova tied the game at 81 with a floater early in the fourth quarter. Later, a breakaway dunk by Alonzo Gee gave the Cavaliers a 90-86 edge with 7:10 to play. Durants 3-pointer gave the Thunder a 97-95 lead, but the Cavaliers responded with an 8-0 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from Jack and Irving, and they controlled the game from there. "Obviously, playing against a great team, youre going to get up for it," Irving said. "Everyone in the league wants to play against a great team like this, especially on their home floor. But this game doesnt mean any more than any other game that we have coming up. Every game just means a lot at this point, no matter who were playing." NOTES: It was the second consecutive start for Thunder C Steven Adams. He replaced Kendrick Perkins, who is out for six weeks with a groin injury. ... Hawes started for the second time since being traded from Philadelphia. ... Durant was honoured during pregame for being selected as the Western Conference player of the month for January. ... LOS ANGELES -- A judge refused Friday to immediately release former NFL All-Pro safety Darren Sharper from jail in a Los Angeles rape case but said she would have to free him soon if charges arent filed in a similar case in Louisiana. The ruling came after lawyers for Sharper argued that he had been freed on $1 million bail and pleaded not guilty in the Los Angeles case but was jailed again after an arrest warrant was issued last week in Louisiana. "To hold him into perpetuity on an arrest warrant seems to be grotesquely unfair," Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Renee Korn said. The judge set a hearing for Thursday to give Louisiana prosecutors time to charge Sharper or for that states governor to seek his return through another type of warrant. It was the latest development in several ongoing sexual assault investigations involving the 38-year-old Sharper in Louisiana, California, Florida, Arizona and Nevada. In a bail motion filed last month, Los Angeles County Investigator John Maccharella described a pattern in which the former football star met women at clubs or parties and lured them to a hotel room, where they were allegedly drugged and raped. The New Orleans warrant says police learned from witnesses that Sharper and associate Erik Nunez had acknowledged having nonconsensual sex with two women. It does not elaborate on how the information was obtained or disclose the names of the witnesses. "Through further investigation by the detectives it was learned that Nunez and Sharper admitted to other known witnesses that he and Sharper had vaginal and/or oral sex with victims .1 and .2 without their knowledge or permission," the warrant states. Sharpers attorneys say he never made such statements and the arrest warrant was a pretext to hold him indefinitely without bail. Prosecutors, however, said they were following the law. Chris Bowman, a spokesman for New Orleans District Attorney Leon A. Cannizzaro Jr., said he could not comment on whether Sharper would be charged before the Thursday deadline set by Judge Korn. "Its an open investigation," Bowman said. "Im not going to comment on it. Im not going to put a timetable on it." In Los Angeles, Deputy District Attorney Javan Wygal said it would be difficult for Louisiana authorities to prosecute Sharper because under the laws of that state, the case there would expire within four months if Sharper isnt tried. Sharper was selected All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times. He played in two Super Bowls, one with the Green Bay Packers as a rookie and was part of a successful championship run while with the New Orleans Saints. He retired after the 2010 season and was working as an analyst for the NFL Network before being fired last week. Leonard Levine, a lawyer for Sharper in Los Angeles, has said Sharper will be cleared in the cases. "All of these were consensual contact between Mr. Sharper and women who wanted to be in his company," Levine said after a court hearing last month. Nunez, a waiter, has been arrested in New Orleans, where a judge on Friday set his bail at $400,000. His lawyer Herbert Larson said prosecutors only had hearsay evidence against his client. Court documents in Los Angeles state that Sharper has submitted DNA samples to New Orleans police and agreed to turn himself in there if he is charged. Nunez also submitted DNA in the case, Larson said, adding that his client is not a flight risk. Sharper had been released on bail in Los Angeles on the condition that he remain in the city, stay away from nightclubs and not be alone with any woman he did not know before October, when the first allegations emerged. His attorneys contend he did not violate any of those terms before turning himself in after the Louisiana warrant was issued. Tyler Bashlor Jersey . Granlund scored 2:04 into the first period. But the 23-year old reliever for the Atlanta Braves was ready nonetheless. Simmons struck out Jarrod Saltalamacchia to end the eighth inning in a one-run game as the Braves went on to beat the Miami Marlins 9-5 on Saturday. "I wasnt really thinking," Simmons said. "I thought I was done for the day and Id just come tomorrow, but luckily I went in and threw strikes." Veteran catcher Gerald Laird helped Simmons settle in with the Braves leading 6-5 with runners on first and second. "I told him, Dont worry about calling your game. Let me call the game, just throw it where I call it," Laird said. "And he did a good job of that." Simmons was one of six Braves relievers used to help Ervin Santana (5-2) win his first game since May 10 against the Cubs. "I drank a whole bottle of coffee because I thought I felt like I was about to doze off out there (in the bullpen)," Simmons said. "Then all of the guys just started talking and said to treat it like any other day." Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Braves offence, which pounded out 12 hits. "It was nice to add some runs up on the board," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Guys got some good at-bats." Santana (5-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. He struck out four. Craig Kimbrel got the last two outs for his 15th save of the season, which tied him with John Smoltz for the most saves in franchise history with 154. "I know if John would have done it his whole career he would have had a lot more," Kimbrel said. "It is nice to say Im a part of something like that, but then again Ive had a lot of opportunities and played on some good ball teams in the first three or four years. If it werent for that case, we wouldnt be sitting here talking about this right now." Derek Dietrich and Casey McGehee each drove in two runs and Christian Yelich had three hits for the Marlins as starter Jacob Turner (1-3) took the loss allowing five runs in five innings. Six Miami pitchers combined to walk nine batters and three errors led to two unearned runs.dddddddddddd "Were walking way too many guys and then you cap that off with sloppy defence," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Were going up against the best teams in baseball. To go out there and compete we have to play better baseball." Miami bench coach Rob Leary was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning by home plate umpire Quinn Wolcott for arguing balls and strikes during an at-bat by Giancarlo Stanton with David Carpenter on the mound. "Everybody was yelling in there," Redmond said. "They just picked Rob, the poor guy. I have to give him some money." Immediately after the ejection Stanton singled and McGehee drove him home with a double to pull Miami within 6-4. Two batters later Marcell Ozuna brought the Marlins within a run with a base hit. Carpenter exited without recording an out in the four batters he faced. Simmons struck out slumping Jarrod Saltalamacchia to end the inning with runners on first and second. Saltalamacchia is 1 for his last 21. "The kid did a nice job," Gonzalez said of Simmons. The Braves scored three runs in the ninth off A.J. Ramos on Lairds RBI single, Ramiro Penas squeeze bunt, and B.J. Uptons bases loaded walk. "I just didnt find the zone, plain and simple," Ramos said. "Whenever I missed, it was too big of a miss." Kimbrel came on in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and the game appeared to be over on a ground ball by Stanton, but Pena dropped a routine throw to second on a fielders choice, which loaded the bases for Miami. Kimbrel calmly retired McGehee to end the game. "We played a good ball game today, we hit the ball when we needed to and we pitched when we needed to," Kimbrel said. SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Boston Bruins domination of the Florida Panthers continued. Well, the Bruins are beating just about everyone lately. Torey Krug scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and the Bruins won their season-high fifth straight with a 5-2 victory over the Panthers on Sunday. Chad Johnson made 20 saves, and Chris Kelly, Jarome Iginla, Patrice Bergeron and Andrej Meszaros also scored for Boston. Bergeron also had two assists for the Bruins, who are 7-0-3 during a 10-game stretch on the road, their longest such point streak since 2010-11. The Bruins have taken 14 of 16 from the Panthers, including eight straight by a combined 33-10 score. Boston is now in first place in the Eastern Conference. "Weve worked hard to get ourselves back at the top of the conference," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "By the looks of it, itll probably be a battle right until the end." Jimmy Hayes scored both goals for Florida, and Roberto Luongo stopped 37 shots. The Bruins broke a 1-1 tie on Krugs goal with 12:22 left the third. Krug took a pass from Brad Marchand in the slot and backhanded it past Luongo. "It seemed like their guys were a little bit tired and I thought I could jump up and beat a couple of guys," Krug said. "March made an unbelievable play and I was lucky enough to put it in." Three goals were scored in a span of 52 seconds later in the third, two by Boston. The Bruins stretched their lead to 3-1 on Bergerons goal with 6 seconds left on a power play. His one-timer went between Luongos pads at 11:21. "It was a big game for us. I think we played a solid road game and we came out with the two points," Bergeron said. The Panthers closed to 3-2 when Hayes found a loose puck in front and jammed in between Johnsons pads for his second goal at 11:42 for his first career multigoal game. The Bruins made it 4-2 on Iginlas goal 31 seconds later when his wrist shot went over Luongos shoulder at 12:13 for his 20th of the season and 550th career goal. Iginla moved into sole possession of 26th on the NHLs career goals list. Longtime Bruins forward John Bucyk is 25th. Kelly scored an empty-netter with 1:02 left. The Bruins beat the Panthers for the second time in six days, including a 4-1 loss on Tuesday in Boston. "Theyre still a benchmark," Panthers coach Peter Horachek said. "Theyre still the team that we have to gauge ourselves by. Thats a message to our guys, thats where we need to be." The Bruins tied it at 1 on a power-play goal by Meszaros. His slap shot from above the right circle got past Luongo at 9:58. It was the first goal Luongo gave up in nearly 90 minutes since rejoining the Panthers for Fridays 2-0 win against Buffalo. Meszaros made his Bruins debut after being acquired from Philadelphia last Wednesday. "It was good to go out there and play. Overall, I felt pretty good and the two points is huge," Meszaros said. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead on Hayes first goal at the 7-minute mark of the second. Nick Bjugstad shot from the right side and Johnson made the block, but Hayes grabbed the rebound and wristed it into the open net on the stick side. The Bruins went after Luongo from the start. He faced 27 shots in the first two periods, with at least three hitting the post, including a deflection off the skate of Panthers defenceman Brian Campbell early in the second that glanced off the iron. "You have to give (the Bruins) credit," Luongo said. "They came out hard in the third and they created some scoring chances. I would have liked to have made a few more saves there at least to keep it a one-goal game, but they have some good players there who can make some plays. "Things kind of fell apart a little bit in the third." NOTES: Bruins F Daniel Paille left with an upper-body injury after being hit by Ed Jovanovski along the boards at 3:06 of the first and did not return. ... Corey Potter, claimed off waivers by Boston from Edmonton on Wednesday, was a healthy scratch. ... Bjugstad has five points the past six games for the Panthers. ... SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- After a year spent travelling the world, Brooks Koepka suddenly is in a position to play a lot more golf at home. In his first regular PGA Tour event, Koepka surged to the top of the leaderboard Friday in the Frys.com Open with a 7-under 64, giving him a one-shot lead over Jason Kokrak going into the weekend at CordeValle. Kokrak, a runner-up at this event last year, hit 6-iron to the par-5 ninth to a foot for eagle and a 65. Koepka, a 23-year-old Floridian, received a sponsors exemption into the PGA Tour season opener between stops in Scotland and Shanghai. He had no status at the start of the year after failing to advance beyond the second stage of Q-school last year. Instead of trying to qualify for Web.com Tour events, Koepka packed his bags and passport for a 15-country journey that has served him well. He won three times on the Challenge Tour to earn his European Tour card. He played the Dunhill Links in Scotland two weeks ago and in two weeks heads to the BMW Masters in Shanghai. If he were to win the Frys.com Open, he would have a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. "Theres no pressure. Just enjoying it right now," Koepka said. "Looking forward to the weekend. I dont see any pressure. Yeah, it would be big. Obviously, be nice to win and get status over here. But you play good, everything kind of takes care of itself." It has so far -- not just the last two days, but all year. Koepka, who make eight birdies and an eagle, was at 11-under 131. With no wind in the afternoon, the cut was at even-par 142. Because more than 78 players made the cut, there will be a 54-hole cut Saturday for the top 70 and ties. Ottawas Brad Fritsch (64) finished the day tied for 18th place, while David Hearn (68) of Brantford, Ont., ended his day at 1-under par. Mike Weir (70) of Brights Grove, Ont., was at even par while Calgarys Stephen Ames did not make the cut. Robert Garrigus (63) and Jim Herman (66) were two shots behind, while Camilo Villegas shot 66 and was another shot behind at 8-under 134. Kevin Tway, son of former PGA champion Bob Tway, had a 65 and was among those at 135. Lurking five shots behind were the Japanese duo of Hideki Matsuyama (66) and Ryo Ishikawa (67). Koepka made most of his birdies with a wedge in his hand, and picked up two more birdies on the par 5s by missing eagle attempts from about 12 feet. He was at the same course at Q-school where Jordan Spieth failed to advance. Spieth started out on the Web.com Tour, did well enough in his PGA Tour starts to get some money and momentum, and wound up with a win, a PGA Tour card, a trip to the Tour Championship and a spot on the Presidents Cup team. Koepka, missing the amateur credentials and sponsor exemptions of Spieth, went a different direction. South Africa. Switzerland. Kenya. Kazakhstan. Much like the European Tour, its developmental circuit goes all over the world. Like the time in Kenya that his driver turned a 15-minute trip into over three hours, stopping on side streets along the way and making Koepka more nervous than he has been behind the wheel of his luxury courtesy car at CordeValle this week. Sure, he thought about how much more comfortable it would have been to try a Web.com Tour schedule mainly in America. But he wouldnt trade the experience. "Youre travelling the world at 23," Koepka said. "Thats good. And its a good experience playing overseas. I think youll see a lot more guys doing it. ... I think everybody wants to be a worldwide player. At least for me, thats what I want to be able to do -- play the European Tour and the PGA Tour. I just need to get established over here a little bit more." The tournament is only halfway over, though Koepka is surely helped by having won four times in the last year on the Challenge Tour in Europe. Herman also is on good form, though he can be excused if this doesnt feel like a PGA Tour opener. His off-season was one week. Herman played well late in the year but still didnt make it to the FedEx Cup playoffs. He played four of five weeks in the Web.com Tour Finals to earn his card back, and one week later, he was at CordeValle putting up rounds of 67-66 to assure himself a late tee time Saturday. The low round Friday came from Andres Gonzalez, who also could use a big week. Gonzalez thought he had his card wrapped up at the Web.com Tour Championship until Lee Williams made a 55-foot birdie putt on the last hole, and Andrew Loupe made a 5-foot par putt right behind him to knock Gonzalez out. Hes only in the Frys.com Open because he finished in the top 10 in the previous PGA Tour event in August. Gonzalez shot a 62 and was five shots out of the lead. Saints Jerseys 2020 . LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling apologized Sunday for racist comments captured on tape, saying they were a "terrible mistake." "Im not a racist," Sterling told CNNs Anderson Cooper in excerpts posted from an interview taped Sunday and set to air Monday. "I made a terrible mistake. Im here to apologize." In his first public comments since being banned for life from the NBA, Sterling said years of good behaviour as an owner should count toward his future. "Im a good member who made a mistake," Sterling said. "Am I entitled to one mistake, am I after 35 years? I mean, I love my league, I love my partners. Am I entitled to one mistake? Its a terrible mistake, and Ill never do it again." The interview came nearly two weeks after NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling, fined him $2.5 million and urged the other league owners to force him to sell the team. Sterling said he waited to make a public apology because he was "emotionally distraught." "The reason its hard for me, very hard for me, is that Im wrong," Sterling said. "I caused the problem. I dont know how to correct it." He later added, "If the owners feel I have another chance, then theyll give it to me." Sterlings comments came on the same day ABC News posted excerpts of an interview his estranged wife gave to Barbara Walters. Shelly Sterling said she would fight to keep her 50 per cent ownership stake of the team. "I will fight that decision," Shelly Sterling said. "To be honest with you, Im wondering if a wife of one of the owners, and theres 30 owners, did something like that, said those racial slurs, would they oust the husband? Or would they leave the husband in? "I dont know why I should be punished for whaat his actions were.dddddddddddd" NBA spokesman Mike Bass released a statement Sunday night in response to Shelly Sterlings comments. "Under the NBA constitution, if a controlling owners interest is terminated by a three-quarter vote, all other team owners interests are automatically terminated as well," Bass said. "It doesnt matter whether the owners are related as is the case here. These are the rules to which all NBA owners agreed to as a condition of owning their team." Shelly Sterlings attorney, Pierce ODonnell, responded to the NBAs statement. "We do not agree with the leagues self-serving interpretation of its constitution, its application to Shelly Sterling or its validity under these unique circumstances," ODonnell said. "We live in a nation of laws. California law and the United States Constitution trump any such interpretation." ABC posted initial excerpts of Shelly Sterlings interview and planned to air the rest of it Monday. Shelly Sterling also said she "eventually" will divorce her husband, and that she hadnt yet done so due to financial considerations. "For the last 20 years, Ive been seeing attorneys for a divorce," she said. "In fact, I have here -- I just filed -- I was going to file the petition. I signed the petition for a divorce. And it came to almost being filed. And then, my financial adviser and my attorney said to me, Not now." LeBron James said Sunday after the Miami Heat practiced for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Brooklyn Nets that NBA players believe nobody in the Sterling family should be able to own the Clippers if hes gone. "As players, we want whats right and we dont feel like no one in his family should be able to own the team," James said. ' ' '
After the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Trois-Rivieres Aigles Tuesday afternoon game was suspended due to rain, the two teams played a pseudo double header on Wednesday night, and each team won one. The Goldeyes (23-14) beat the Aigles 5-3 in the first of the two games, and then were beaten by the Trois-Rivieres squad 2-1 in the regularly scheduled Wednesday night contest, which was modified to seven innings. In the Tuesday afternoon game, the Goldeyes took the lead in the third, driving in three. The Aigles responded in the bottom of the same inning, scoring two on back-to-back solo home runs. Winnipeg would reestablish their two run lead in the fourth before the rain had its way and suspended the game. The game was picked up in the top of the fifth on Wednesday, and other than the one additional run that Trois-Rivieres was able to drive in, the relief pitching for both teams kept the offensive threats to a minimum. “The bullpen did a good job of shutting the door down,” said Goldeyes Pitching Coach Jamie Vermilyea of the way his relievers helped retain the Winnipeg lead. Goldeyes pitcher Gabe Aguilar who was on the mound when the game resumed was credited with the win. Chris Kissock earned the save, and former Goldeyes pitcher Matt Rusch was charged with the loss. In the Wednesday evening matchup, the only difference between the two teams was an RBI single hit by Steve Brown in the bottom of the seventh. For the third game in a row against the Aigles the Goldeyes took the lead first. Josh Mazzola hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the third inning. Trois-Rivieres Michael Hernandez replied by hitting a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the fourth to even the score at one. Due to great pitching from both starters, the score would remain tied until the bottom of the seventh. “Both starters did well pounding the strike zone, and cutting the ball down,” Vermilyea said. “They didnt let the batters get too many good swings on the ball.” Winnipegs starter Kyle Anderson was able to only give up the one run on five hits as he struck out seven. “When your starter can go six innings and only give up one run, hes going to give his team a chance to win it,” said Vermilyea. Despite Anderson doing exactly that, it was Brown who would be the hero for his team. After Sasha LaGarde got on base on a two-out single, Brown drove him in on a single of his own to walk-off the game. “You have to take advantage of your opportunities,” said Vermilyea in response to whether or not he was surprised that Trois-Rivieres waved the winning run around third base on the walk-off play. “It would have had to have been a good throw from us to take him out at home.” Winnipeg and Trois-Rivieres will wrap up their four-game series Thursday at 6 p.m. After which, the Goldeyes will come home and get set to take on their North Division rivals the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in a four-game series that starts Friday at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park. John Williamson Jersey . JOHNS, N.CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Aroldis Chapman let baseball know in his own way that his long journey back from an scary injury was complete: with a 100 mph strike to the games hottest hitter. Chapman made his first major league appearance since being hit above the eye by a line drive during spring training, striking out the side in the ninth with his 100 mph fastball to close out the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies 4-1 Sunday. "I am really happy to get out there for the first time," said Chapman through a translator. "They are a good team but I was mentally prepared to face them. Facing those type of hitters make you feel better, than if you just break the ice." Chapman walked Troy Tulowitzki, who started the day leading the National League with a .405 batting average, but had an easy inning. Todd Frazier hit his second 400-foot home run in three days to back Homer Baileys shutdown pitching as Cincinnati won the rubber match of its three-game series with Colorado. "It was great to see Aroldis. The confidence and determination he had was very cool," said Frazier without a thought to his second home run of the series or his 11-game hitting streak. Chapman was greeted by a standing ovation from the crowd of 33,143. He reached 100 mph with his first pitch and topped out at 102 mph in earning the save. Chapman had been out since being hit above the left eye by a line drive during a spring training game on March 19. "I was excited to get back but I was even more excited when I heard the fans," said the 26-year old Cuban. Chapman was hit hard in his in his last two rehab starts in Louisville, allowing eight earned runs in one inning over the two-game stint. "As much as you want guys to treat those assignments like a normal game, they dont always have the same focus," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "The reports we had said he was throwing the ball well. He made some big pitchers to get some good hitters out." Skip Schumaker drove in two runs and the Reds capitalized on two Colorado throwing errors to send the Rockies to their third loss in four games. Besides contributing two sacrifice bunts, Bailey (3-2) limited a Colorado offence that produced 11 runs and 16 hits on Saturday night to one run -- Charlie Blackmons ninth homer of the season and second in two games -- and four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 7 1-3 innings. "Homer worked with (pitching coach) Jeff Pico to raise his hands above his head during his wind up," Price said. Bailey, who signed a $105 million contract in March, struggled through his first seven starts. He began the game with an ERA at 5..dddddddddddd6. "I had to do something," Bailey said. "I had to figure something out. There was nowhere else to go but to be better." Manny Parra got the final two outs of the eighth inning. The Reds snapped Nolan Arenados streak of getting on base at 30 consecutive games, two days after his hitting streak was stopped at a franchise-record 28 games. "Chapman threw the ball very well," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "He used his splitter well to left-handed hitters. He was on today." Juan Nicasio (4-2), whod won his previous two starts, allowed five hits and four runs -- two earned -- with one walk and three strikeouts. Billy Hamilton, making his first start since spraining two knuckles on his left hand while making a diving catch on May 1, led off the first inning with a bunt single up the first base line and went all the way to third on first baseman Justin Morneaus throwing error. Hamilton scored on Schumakers groundout to second baseman DJ LeMahieu. The Reds made it 2-0 in the third on Ramon Santiagos leadoff bloop single to left field, Baileys sacrifice, a Nicasio balk while facing Hamilton and Schumakers soft, two-out liner to centre field. Blackmon became the first Rockie to reach base when he led off the fourth with an estimated 380-foot shot into the right field seats on a 2-2 pitch. Frazier got that run back with his seventh homer of the season, an estimated 421-foot drive to centre field on a 2-2 pitch with one out in the fourth inning that extended his career-high hitting streak to 11 games (13 for 42, .310). LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Devin Hester is done returning kicks in Chicago. The Bears confirmed Thursday that they are parting ways with the three-time Pro Bowl pick after eight seasons, confirming what he told the NFL Network the previous day. So instead of a return to Chicago, hell hit the market as a free agent. General manager Phil Emery said it had been an honour to have Hester on the team. "While Devin has redefined the pinnacle standard of the return position in the NFL, the memories and contributions he has given us cannot be measured by stats or numbers," he said. "Not only is Devin a special player, he is also an exceptional person. He is a great teammate, husband and father. Devin represented the organization off-the-field as well as he did on it. When his career is over, he will always be a welcome member of the Bears family." Hester matched Hall of Famer Deion Sanders NFL record with his 19th return touchdown last season, tying his friend and mentor with an 81-yard punt return at Washington in October. It was Hesters 13th punt return for a TD, extending his own record in that category. He has also returned five kickoffs and a missed field goal for a touchdown. Hester is best remembered by Bears fans for returning the opening kickoff in the 2007 Super Bowl for a touchdown. He ran it back 92 yards for a score in a game won by Indianapolis. Hester endured several lulls on returns during his career, particularly when the Bears tried to make him a receiver. But he showed some of his old form while focusing solely on returns last season. Hes the second Bears star to leave the team in as many years: Last May, linebacker Brian Urlacher announced his retirement after 13 seasons, all with the Bears. The eight-time Pro Bowler and the team were unable to reach a deal a year ago and he eventually decided to call it quits. Sabres Jerseys 2021 . "Milos is playing the tennis of his life," said Djokovic. "Hes top-10 now, an established top-10 player. He has one of the best serves in the world. Very powerful, very precise." Raonic had 17 aces when the two hooked up at the Masters 1000 event in Italy on May 17. Only American John Isner (82) has more aces than Raonic (72) at Roland Garros this year. "When he serves that well, there is not much you can do, really," said Djokovic, who entered Mondays matches as the tournament leader in break points won (29). "He puts a lot of pressure on his opponent and he has improved a lot from the baseline now. With his backhand, hes hitting down the line, hes very aggressive, which he should be, of course, for somebody of his height and his build. You know, hes powerful and he uses that serve. Forehand is also very good from back of the court. So there is an evident improvement in his game and he feels more confident on the court. You can feel that. The recent match we had in Rome, as you mentioned, was very close." Djokovic lost the first set in a tiebreaker at the Internazionali BNL dItalia before edging Raonic in a second-set tiebreaker and winning the third and deciding set 6-3. After the three-hour battle of wills, Djokovic said he could not remember the last time he felt as helpless in the return game. "I dont expect anything different now," he said after a straight-set victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Sunday. "You know, I know that Im going to have to face somebody that is going to serve over 200 kilomeeters per hour in average throughout the whole match.dddddddddddd But Im ready for that." Raonic, meanwhile, is also feeling confident after becoming the first Canadian man to ever reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam singles competition (in the Open era). Raonic admitted he would not have thought his breakthrough would come on the red clay in Paris, but noted he has made some subtle adjustments this year to improve his game on the slower surface. "The biggest difference I have made this year is not really making too much of a difference when I have come to the clay," the 23-year-old explained. "Just more of an approach, knowing more balls will come back, but trying to stay close, not going too far back, and all these kind of things. I have tried to sort of keep that, I was doing it on hard courts, and its been working out well for me." But Raonic is well aware of the challenge that now lays before him. Djokovic badly wants to win the title here in order to complete the career slam. "I think its more so just a mental aspect of keeping up a certain level for that long and not allowing yourself to drift away," Raonic said when asked what the key is when facing such a strong opponent in a best-of-five format. "But he also makes that demanding of you in two out of three sets. Its just about doing it a little bit longer and bringing your best tennis. Obviously, thats important." Raonic and Djokovic have had a congenial relationship on tour due in part to their shared Serbian heritage. Born in Podgorica, Montenegro in 1990, Raonic and his family relocated to Toronto in 1994. "We have a good relationship. Very friendly. Same type of cultural upbringing and background, so we understand each other a lot, especially because of the language, as well," Raonic said. "So we get along well." ' ' '
